Design lead for the core dashboard product working with every team in the organisation

Scope

What is Alchemy?

Alchemy is a world class developer platform that supports a huge cross-section of on chain developer tools such as RPC nodes, webhooks, rollups and custodial wallets.

The core of my responsibility was to lead the redesign of the self serve dashboard and integrate quality of life improvements as well as design growth solutions to increase revenue for the company.

Designing the dashboard

The dashboard is Alchemy’s main surface for developers to interact with all infrastructure products that it offers. It is a universal tool for free teams all the way up to enterprise customers such as Coinbase.

It’s most critical uses are focused on managing compute units (ie. cost), monitoring errors and managing billing. During my tenure I worked to extend multiple new products into the dashboard such as webhooks, rollups, and custom data pipelines.

Challenges

Some key problems I worked to resolve

Amongst my many projects at alchemy was a constant mandate to work on quality of life issues. The core use of Alchemy is to build robust on-chain apps and in order to do that we need to give developers amazing tools for observability and debugging.

Developers need intuitive ways to explore the logs of their app interacting with the chain, as well as sophisticated monitoring tools.

Challenges and solutions

In order to provide the easiest access to issues in our logs tool I designed a custom timeline that is permanently set at the top of the logs page. This acts as an error filter visual and allows a developer to quickly see where the errors are spiking, then constrain the time frame to that local time.

From here a developer can quickly dive into the specific errors and unpack any associated error message. These tools drastically improved the experience building on the alchemy platform and tied into other core surface areas I worked on such as custom event alerts.

Guiding product

Much of my work at Alchemy was to work closely with product leadership and define what should come next on the pipeline for the team. Our custom alerts feature was a direct outcome of me prototyping and getting user feedback before presenting the clear user need during our product planning meetings.

This product feature was desperately needed and a lack of custom alerts had caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in churn which was greatly mitigated by the addition of this new feature.

Marketing and growth

Within the product there were numerous opportunities to include new elements that drove growth. There was a profound need to direct users to new sticky services that we had recently launched. In order to achieve this I created a new launch banner that could be placed in the dashboard but also across social and email surfaces.

This simple template was then given to the marketing team so the could easily spin up new campaigns that would then be consistent across our entire marketing and product stack top to bottom.
